Yet like most businesses you probably have fire plans and procedures but nothing at all about flooding.
Flooding can be ruinous to a business, and unlike fire or other threats, it is caused by factors beyond the control of anyone in your business and is likely to be damaging to the whole neighbourhood. It is an unfortunate fact that many town centres, even the oldest of High Streets, can be on valley floors - which is precisely where we find many SME retailers, hence the reason why they are at great risk. Retailers rely on stock and usually trade from ground floor locations, which is a reason why they are at a higher risk than almost any other type of business, and food retailers most of all - the damage to the stock and their trading area can be absolutely devastating.
